Home · Napa Valley wineries · V. Sattui Winery
V. Sattui has one of the most energetic and accessible visitor environments in Napa Valley. Rather than functioning only as a tasting room, the St. Helena property combines wine tasting, an extensive Italian-inspired marketplace, picnic grounds, gardens and food service. The result is a stop where visitors can easily spend significantly more time than the approximately one hour required for a tasting.
Current tastings are seated and allow guests to choose among several wines rather than simply receiving a predetermined flight. Visitors interested in Cabernet can focus more heavily on vineyard-designated bottlings, while others can explore the winery's broader portfolio. The atmosphere is generally more approachable than the tightly structured luxury experiences at wineries such as Opus One, and V. Sattui continues to accommodate spontaneous visitors when space allows.
Food is a major part of the visit. The Mercato del Gusto offers sandwiches, salads, charcuterie, desserts and more than 200 cheeses, while weekend service adds grilled and barbecue items. Guests can take purchases onto the winery's roughly 2½ acres of shaded picnic grounds and then explore the gardens, cellars and museum caves. Outside food isn't permitted, but the breadth of the marketplace makes V. Sattui one of the easiest Napa wineries to combine with lunch.

Planning a day around V. Sattui Winery
I'd deliberately schedule this around lunch. Buy food at the marketplace/deli and use the picnic grounds, eliminating a separate restaurant stop.
